This may not be the most interesting article ever written, but it is sensible and honest and that is what I was going for.

I made it to Quito very early morning about 4 hours after I grabbed the bus in Tulcan with Amanda, my current travel partner. On the road we reflected about the differences and unique characteristics of the buildings throughout the world. I think that the construction of every city is as original as the human DNA. I am beginning to fall in love with Ecuador and its perfect roads that span out before me.

Quitumbe was the final stop on our journey from Tulcan, it is a grand terminal which could rival many airports in South America. The buses are punctual and when you use Google Maps you actually get correct info. We had to make our way to the old town, so we waited until some friends caught their bus to Mancora and then started our trip.

Ecuador with it’s perfect lucidity, the streets of its downtown calling you to wander through them and explore. This was just in the little we saw from the bus station stop which brought us to Community Hostel, where we needed to recharge and prepare to see Quito at its fullest.

The first day we walked (well actually climbed) to Parque Itchimbia. It is on an eastern hill near to the San Blas neighborhood. It is relatively simple to get to this park you just need to have a good set of lungs because you will have to tackle many stairs. As you make your way up those stairs there is some amazing graffiti to make the walk more enjoyable. A beautiful purple color is dominating the walls, which is perfect because we are heading up for the sunset.

Itchimbia also has the huge sign with the name of the city written out. We sat there to enjoy a few cigarettes as the sun began to set. It was a very unique experience to see all the colors of the sky as the sun goes down. But with that came the chill of the night. With the Andes all around us the colors begin to change and we are left with the wind until the sun comes out again.
