Are Our Tours Safe? An Honest Answer from Our Founder

Yes, and here’s why I can say that

Hi, I’m Marco, the founder of Community Adventures. I’ve travelled to more than 60 countries, and I know that when you book with someone you’ve never met, the first thing you want to know is: will I be safe? So here’s my honest answer.

We’ve been in tourism in Ecuador for more than 20 years, with a team of about 45 people. Your safety is the first thing we think about when we choose a tour, a driver or a lodge.

We’ve done every tour ourselves

We don’t sell a tour we haven’t tried. We work with the best suppliers we can find, and we choose the most knowledgeable guides. Our day tours are run with our partner Ecosportour, and in the jungle we work with Cuyabeno Dolphin Lodge.

Our track record in the jungle

In all our years running Cuyabeno tours, we’ve had zero incidents with our drivers and no accidents, on the road or at the lodge. The overnight bus only carries people going to the jungle, it stops for breaks, and the seats recline so you can sleep. The lodge has satellite or Starlink communication for emergencies, and you’re always with a guide when you’re out in the forest. You can read more in my complete Cuyabeno guide.

Health and altitude

Quito is at 2,850 m, and tours like Cotopaxi and Quilotoa go higher. Give yourself a day or two in Quito before a mountain tour, and drink plenty of water. In the jungle, we’ve never had a guest get malaria. Pills are optional. If they give you peace of mind, take them the way your doctor recommends.

We’re honest with you, even when it costs us a sale

If a tour isn’t right for you, we’ll tell you. For example, we don’t recommend Cotopaxi or Quilotoa for very young children, and we’ll tell you if a one-day plan means too much time in a van. If something isn’t guaranteed, like seeing an anaconda, we’ll say so.

Private tours, door to door

If you’d feel more comfortable with your own guide and driver, go private. We can start earlier, go at your pace, and pick you up and drop you off at your hotel, Airbnb or the airport. Have a look at our private and custom tours.

We’re here, in person

Our office is inside Community Hostel in Quito’s Old Town, at Pedro Fermín Cevallos N6-78 y Olmedo. You can walk in, meet us and ask anything. Or message us on WhatsApp at +593 97 998 4730 and talk to a real person on our team. For us it’s not about selling you a tour. It’s about you having the best experience you can while you’re in Ecuador, and that starts with feeling safe.
